After I Under
Las Salinas/AADKSpain
11th August 2023Set in Salinas del Curro – a former salt extraction site marked by vastness, stillness, and traces of labor – After I Under is a performance that engages themes of grief, absence, and transformation. The landscape becomes a witness, holding space for a quiet choreography of loss and transition. An old bathtub, once used and discarded, is moved, turned, and embraced—its weight carried, its form inhabited. The performer enters into an intimate dialogue with the object: climbing inside, holding onto it, and eventually disappearing beneath it. From underneath the vessel, the body re-emerges slowly, as if reborn. In a closing gesture, sand is gathered and released into the landscape – echoing acts of mourning, of scattering, of letting go.
After I Under is both ritual and residue – an embodied response to loss, and a meditation on what persists when someone is no longer there.
