Sculptures in Motion
Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin
2026Open Studio Workshop
How do bodies grow beyond themselves – and what role do tempo and space play in this process?
This participatory workshop, held on the terrace of the Neue Nationalgalerie as part of the Art4ALL programme, invited visitors into a direct, embodied encounter with the architecture and with Brâncuși’s work. Through movement and performative scores, participants explored the relationship between body, space and perception – using the curtains, stairways and spatial structures of Mies van der Rohe’s iconic building as both material and collaborator.
Rather than observing art from a distance, visitors became part of it. Bodies merged with and responded to the architecture, spontaneously deciding when and how to enter the performance. In doing so, the museum was reimagined – not as a fixed space of observation or consumption, but as a living environment activated through collective movement and attention.
The workshop offered a glimpse into how physical engagement with our own body as sculpture is possible: present, relational, and always in motion.
